Defining the Complexity of Care to Sustain Educators and Transform Modern Education

I’m Shirley Preyan—teacher, author, and speaker committed to all-boys education. I believe CARE is the transformational force missing in education today, and my work explores the complexity of delivering radical care in modern schools to help boys reconnect to learning before disengagement becomes identity.

Speaking Engagements

With passion, I speak to teachers, school leaders, and parents about the Complexity of Care, all-boys education, educator wellness, and understanding today’s modern students. Through engaging stories, practical frameworks, and real-world experience, I help audiences understand modern students and deliver care that ranges from meaningful interest to radical, courageous care that transforms student lives without depleting the adults who serve them.

Inspired by the central message of my book, The Heart Is Not Enough, my work explores the habits, language, and skills educators need when heart alone can no longer sustain the work. Audiences leave with practical strategies they can implement immediately to build stronger relationships, improve engagement, reduce burnout, and create cultures where students, staff, and families can thrive. In an age where AI can provide information, my work focuses on the uniquely human skills it cannot replace—the ability to build trust, sustain relationships, mitigate harm, and create the conditions that help students reconnect to learning.

It's about care, and care is complex.

READ THE BOOK

"Our hearts for kids are so big and the work is so new and challenging that it’s contributing to our emotional burnout. Beyond caring, we need modernized skills to work with today's modern students."
